This short scenario-based project was inspired by a recent episode of the NPR Podcast Life Kit. The episode featured writer and clinical psychologist Harriet Lerner, who discussed the dos and don’ts of apologizing. I was drawn to this topic because it is universal. We have all been on the giving and receiving ends of apologies, so we could all benefit from learning how to deliver more effective and sincere apologies. Although the principles on which this project is based are applicable to any circumstance, the scenario is set in a workplace environment.

Learning Objective

  • Be able to discriminate (sort) between effective and ineffective apology statements
